
| BASIC DOCTRINAL BELIEFS The General Overseer and the members of the executive council of the City of Life Christian Centre Int’l, have taken in hand to set forth a declaring of twenty one doctrinal beliefs, most surely believed among us as necessary in understanding the intent of the living God. We pray therefore that there be no harmful differences, which may lead to disunity, divisiveness, or disharmony among the brethren or churches, and that we may be of the same mind and judgment, speaking the same things in love. (Acts 2:42; 1Cor 1:10) 1. THE SCRIPTURES (THE HOLY BIBLE) 1Pt. 2:2, 2Pt. 1:21, 2Tim.3:15-17- The Bible is our sole guide and sets forth criteria for a heaven- bound people. It supremely declares the holy oracles of God. The scripture, both Old and New Testament consisting of 66 books are inspired by the Holy Spirit. 2. THE GODHEAD There is only one God who is a Spirit, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in three Manifestations: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Deut.6:4, Jon.12:29;32, Jon 4:24 3. THE DEITY OF THE LORD JESUS Matt. 1:18,23; Lk.1:26-27; 1Tim.2:5-The Lord Jesus Christ is true God and true man, haven been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. 4. THE ORIGINAL SIN AND FALL OF MAN Rom.3:1-7; Gen.3:6-24; Rom.5:12-19- That by the transgression of one man Adam, sin entered into the world resulting in total spiritual death, which is separation from God of the entire human race. 5. THE SUBSTITUTIONARY SACRIFICE OF CHRIST Acts 2:32-36; 1Pt. 2:24; Heb. 9:14; 1Cor. 15:3-8; Heb.10:12- Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood as a sacrifice for our sins. He arose bodily from the dead, ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Majesty on high. 6. THE SALVATION OF MAN AND JUSTIFICATION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH Eph. 4:11-12; Rom. 3:3; Lk. 24:47- Salvation, justification and regeneration is received through repentance and Godly sorrow for sin and that as an act of God’s grace we receive forgiveness and remission of sin. 7. THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT Jon.15:26; Jon.16:8-14; Acts 1:8- The ministry of the Holy Spirit to glorify Christ, to convict men of sin, righteousness and judgment and to empower the believer. The Holy Spirit operates as the unlimited and invisible presence of Jesus Christ on the earth as Comforter and Advocate; indwelling every born again believer and making the believer’s body His temple. 8. THE CHURCH 1Cor.12:12-17; Eph.1:22-23; Eph.2:22; Heb.12:23- The true church is composed of such persons who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. The true church is the body of Christ, not intended to be the edifice or the institution, but the habitation of God through the Holy Spirit. Each believer born of the Spirit is an integral part of the General Assembly and the Church of the first born which is written in heaven. 9. WATER BAPTISM Matt.28:19; Mk.16:16- The ordinance of baptism immersion in water is commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ. That all who repent of their sins and believes in Christ as saviour and Lord are to be baptized. 10. THE PRIESTHOOD OF THE BELIEVERS 1Pt.2:5, Rom.12:1- The believer is to offer unto God spiritual sacrifices because we have gained access into God’s holy of holies through Christ. 11. THE HOLY COMMUNION OR THE LORD’S SUPPER 1Cor.11:26; Lk. 22:17-20; 2Pt.1:4- The Lord’s supper consisting of the elements, bread and the cup of the fruit of the vines is the expression of our sharing in the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is memorial of His sufferings and death. 12. THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT Acts 1:39; 1Cor.14:2-18; Jude 20; 1Cor.12:1-31- The Spirit is sent to gift each believer with their own private prayer and praise language used to edify themselves and that such baptism empowers the believer to be an effective witness for Christ. 13. DIVINE HEALING AND MIRACLES Exod.15:23-26; Mk.16:18; 1Cor.12:8-10; Matt.16:17- Divine healing was clearly provided for in the Old Testament and was an integral part of the New Testament Gospel as taught and demonstrated by Jesus Christ, the Apostles and the early church. 14. SANCTIFICATION Heb.12:14; 1Thess.5:23; 2Pt.3:18; 1Thess.4:3; 1Pt.1:16- Sanctification is definite yet progressive work of grace, the separation from anything considered sinful in the scriptures and of dedication to God. 15. THE FIVE-FOLD MINISTRY Eph.4:11; 1Cor.7:20; 1Cor.12:28- God by the Holy Spirit, definitely call whom he desires to serve in the five-fold ministry and qualifies the one called with power, talents, wisdom and gifts pertaining to that office or offices. 16. MATRIMONY Gen.2:24; Matt.19:5-6 – Marriage between one man and one woman shall be binding for life. 17. TITHES AND OFFERINGS Mal.3:8,10,11- All Christians should tithe to the storehouse (Church), where they receive spiritual food. 18. THE BLESSED HOPE-THE RESSURRECTION OF THE SAINTS Acts1:11; 1Thess.4:16,17; Rom.8:23; 1Cor.15:51; Titus2:13- The pre-millennial coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in the clouds to catch away His Bride. 19. THE SECOND ADVENT OF CHRIST 1Thess.4:16; Zech.14:5; Matt.24:27,30; Rev.17; Rev.19:11,20; Matt.25:46; The second coming of Christ includes the catching away (Rapture) of the Church (Saints), followed by the actual visible return of Christ with His Saints to reign with Him on the earth for one thousand years. 20. ETERNAL HEAVEN AND ETERNAL HELL Matt.25:46; Rev.19:11-15; Rev.21:8; Mk.9:43-48- There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the book of life, together with the devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet will be consigned to everlasting punishment in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. 21. THE NEW HEAVEN AND THE NEW EARTH 2Pt.3:13; Rev.21:1- We, according to His promise look for new heavens and new earth; wherein dwells righteousness. |
